The Department of Computer Science and Department of Economics, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Golaghat, Assam in association with DPIIT-IPR Chair, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Guwahati, Assam, have organized One Week Faculty Development Programme on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” from 18th December to 22nd December, 2023. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Assam. Ms. Carolyn Rengma, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Assam has given the welcome note. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia in his inaugural speech has talked about the importance of IPR in the era of rapid advancement in technology throughout the world. Sir has also emphasized the need of such program for fostering an environment that nurtures creativity and respects the fruits of intellectual mind(s). Prof V. K. Ahuja, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor at National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJAA), Assam was also present in the inaugural session of the FDP who gave the keynote address of the inaugural session. A brief outline about the FDP has also been given by Dr. Uzzal Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya. The inaugural session ends with the Vote of Thanks offered by Dr. Jitu Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya, Assam. The Technical Sessions of the entire program cover topics such as Trademark and Related Issues, Geographical Indications – An Overview of India and NER with Special Reference to Assam, Role of Patents in Academia and the Application Process, Indigenous/Traditional Knowledge System & Related IPR Issues, etc. Some eminent resource persons who have delivered their talk in different technical sessions are Dr. Pankaj Kumar, DPIIT IPR, Chair Professor, NLUJA, Assam; Dr. Pritam Deb, Professor and Chairman of IPR Cell, Tezpur University, Assam; Dr. Vikas Asawat, IP Attorney, Kota, Rajasthan, India; Dr. Pranjal Protim Buragohain, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Dibrugarh University, Assam; Dr. Sharmistha Baruah, Research Officer, DPIIT-IPR Chair, NLUJA, Assam; Dr. Anil Kumar, Senior Scientist, CSIR-TKDL Unit, New Delhi, India; Dr. D. R. Choudhury, Joint Registrar, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority, New Delhi, India. A total of 47 participants across the country have registered their name and actively participated in the FDP program, and interacted with the resource persons in the technical sessions related to different issues of IPR. The FDP ended on 22nd December, 2023 with a Valedictory Session scheduled from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
